Third Street Partners Program Offerings

In African Percussion, students are introduced to traditional West African music and culture. Students will learn the fundamentals of rhythm, time signatures, and call-and-response. In African percussion classes, students will acquire the techniques for playing the djembe, a West African hand drum, and the doun doun, an African stick drum. At the program's conclusion, student ensembles will perform for friends and family.

The choir program empowers students to discover and develop their voices through music. Emphasis is placed on learning proper vocal technique through the use of the singing voice. Students gain an introduction to rhythm, note placement, and reading music from a choral score. The choir sings songs of various styles, cultures, and traditions. This program culminates in a performance.

Woodwind and brass students learn to read music, count rhythms, and play their instruments. Students of all levels are welcome to play trumpet, trombone, saxophone, flute, and clarinet by learning popular music that everyone will recognize and enjoy. Students will collaborate with their peers, listen, and work together toward a cohesive ensemble performance.

Dance classes offer a high-energy way for students to exercise, build self-confidence, and develop teamwork skills. Students embark on a journey of self-expression, emotional growth, and social development as they learn dance combinations in a supportive, fun environment.

Children learn and develop foundational music skills and creativity through song, dance, and play! Third Street’s experienced teaching artists engage students in exploring multicultural traditions as they learn folk songs and dances from around the world. Third Street’s child-centered approach encourages students to improvise and compose their own lyrics, melody, and rhythms, enhancing their self-confidence and social-emotional skills. Students develop music literacy and skills such as pitch matching, playing percussion instruments, keeping a steady beat, and reading music notation. At the end of the course, friends and family are invited to a culminating “music share,” to celebrate the great work of the students.

In this introductory class, students explore the fundamentals of musical theatre in an encouraging and supportive environment, while honing their acting, dancing, and singing abilities. Students will have a hand in crafting unique characters through fun, exploratory exercises and in creating their own roles in one-of-a-kind versions of scenes from musicals! Students will also build confidence in their stage presence and performance skills through creative improv, music, and movement games.

This fun and interactive class gives everyone the opportunity to master an instrument! Students will explore topics such as music notation, rhythm, and melody while learning proper recorder technique and fun songs. This class culminates in a performance for friends and families.

Join our fun and engaging Woodwind & Brass class! Learn to play the flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, or trombone. This class is perfect for budding musicians in elementary, middle, or high school. In this class, students will build on foundational music skills, improve their focus and coordination, and boost their self-confidence.

Violin class will not only build your technical skills on the violin but also foster socioemotional growth through music. Students will gain essential skills while developing confidence and patience through a step-by-step approach. Through hands-on practice and a supportive learning environment, this course encourages musical growth alongside personal development.

In this class, students will dive into the fun and approachable world of ukulele, discovering how to express their unique musical tastes while engaging with various styles and traditions. Participants will have the chance to learn beloved songs, develop their playing techniques, and explore songwriting in a collaborative environment. Through interactive group sessions, hands-on practice, and opportunities for live performance, students will not only enhance their ukulele skills but also build a supportive network where they can connect and thrive together. Join us in this vibrant musical journey as we celebrate the joy of playing the ukulele and create wonderful memories along the way!

Rock Band is a dynamic, student-driven, and community-centered learning experience designed to ignite a passion for music while fostering collaboration and creativity. In this class, students explore their personal interests in popular music, connecting them with the rich history and diverse language of various genres. Participants will have the opportunity to learn about different musical styles, including classic/modern rock, Blues, R&B, jazz, and Pop, while developing foundational techniques on instruments such as Vocals, Guitar, Bass, Piano, and Drums, as well as essential skills in performance, songwriting, and teamwork. Each student’s unique musical tastes will be celebrated, allowing for a tailored experience that resonates with their individual aspirations.
