PARTNERS AT THIRD STREET

Every student at a Third Street Partner site is invited to deepen their music or dance instruction at Third Street Music School.

  • What is the Partners at Third Street Program?

Partners at Third Street is a two-year program that sets your child on a path to musicianship.

Available for students from Third Street Partner schools and community centers, Partners at Third Street offers free and discounted music education at Third Street Music School.

  • How do I know who is eligible for one year of free music and dance classes?

The program is open to children ages 4 – 18 (by December 31, 2025), who attend a public school or community site partnered with Third Street and are NEW to the Partners at Third Street program.

  • How can I apply for Partners at Third Street free music and dance classes?

RSVP to attend the 2025 in-person Open House on Tuesday, June 17th (3pm – 6pm) or join us virtually at ThirdStreet.nyc/openhouse

The application for the 2025-2026 school year will be available on Tuesday, June 17 until 6pm at ThirdStreet.nyc/openhouse

  • When are the classes? At what time(s)? How often do classes meet?

Classes will begin in September and meet weekly through mid-June.

Class times are based on applicant availability and will be scheduled to accommodate as many students as possible.

Students are expected to attend classes weekly and may be dropped from the program after three consecutive absences.

  • If I submit an online application, am I guaranteed a spot in the Partners at Third Street program?

Whether you attend the in-person or virtual Open House, all applications will be considered, and we will do our best to place as many students as possible.

  • What if the student already has music or dance experience?

Please make sure you indicate past music or dance experience on your application!

  • Will we get our first-choice instrument/dance style?

We will do our best to accommodate each student’s requests. However, this cannot be guaranteed.

  • Can siblings or friends be placed together?

We will do our best to accommodate each family’s requests. However, this cannot be guaranteed.

  • Do parents/caregivers attend classes with children?

Parents/caregivers are invited to stay with their child or drop them off for music and dance classes.

Please do not leave your child without a caregiver on site. This will prevent any unnecessary stress for your child.  Your teacher will work closely with each family to create a plan that works to support the children’s joyful and individualized learning journey in class.

    • 5 and under - We encourage a gentle separation where caregivers stay in close proximity
    • 6 to 10 - Parents/caregivers sit outside of the classroom, especially for the first classes, and then remain in close proximity to the school.
    • 11 and up – As families become comfortable with the routines of classes, families will be supported in building their children’s independence with care and trust
  • When can we expect to find out if we’ve been accepted into the program?

    August 2025

  • How many years is the Partners at Third Street program?

In year 1, students attend a full year of FREE group classes at Third Street.

In year 2, students attend a second full year of group classes with a tuition of $400.

In year 3 and beyond, Partners at Third Street students continue with individual lessons, additional classes, and ensembles. Generous financial aid is available for year 2 and beyond.

  • Does Third Street provide school pickup/transportation from school to Third Street?

We wish we could, but this service is not currently available.

  • Should I buy an instrument/supplies?

Families are responsible for obtaining an instrument and materials for Partners at Third classes.

Third Street may provide partial or full instrument support and teaching materials based on the assigned activity and demonstrated financial need.

You'll receive more information about this as well as your assigned activity in August. If you already have access to an instrument at home, from a friend or family, you can let us know by sharing this information on your application.

Families should wait for activity assignments before obtaining instruments and materials.

We may even ask you to wait until your first few classes so your instructor can recommend the proper instrument size.

If you have questions about instruments and supplies contact Student Services.
